The Orion Ascent Abort was a test of the Launch Abort System (LAS) for the NASA Orion Spacecraft. The LAS would pull crew away from the launch vehicle in the event of an emergency while on the launch pad or during ascent to orbit. The test used part of a USAF Peacekeeper missile to send the capsule to an altitude of 31,000 ft (9.400 m) before firing the LAS.
